Lore
With Cell-Merger tanks becoming commercialized, DNA manipulation births became the norm. One of the more renowned cases was the Chein Twins, better known as the “Yin Yang Sisters,” the first interracial twins, made with interconnection in mind. Yang was second born, Light, Active, outgoing, a woman who loved to perform and draw attention. She was marked with a Gold “Mod” on her right ear representing the Sun. Her twin sister Yin #6650 was the complete opposite: Dark, Sensitive, Quiet, a woman who loved to listen and observe the world around her. She, too, was marked but with Silver on her left ear representing the Moon.
Yang and her sister were like any other siblings in Cyberia, with the occasional argument or disagreement. But soon, their values and personality differences grew. Arguments turned to fighting, and disagreements became divides, never meeting eye to eye—opposites in every way: one day, the other night; one hot, the other cold.
Yang’s love for music meant she spent her days at the record store, headphones on, listening to anything and everything. Singing along attracted harsh glares or admiring eyes. Nights were spent at the Cyber Circuit Nightclub, approaching DJs or musicians for collaborations but always being dismissed, until one day the katana-wielding club owner offered her a chance to perform.
She was given the afternoon slot, with only day drunks, business meetups, and workers around, but she didn’t care—this was her chance. Mid-song, she glimpsed a businesswoman staring her way. Ignoring her, she kept performing. The woman bought her a drink afterward, and Yang recognized her—a once famous DJ now producer. She loved Yang's performance and offered her a record deal on the spot. Yang stared at a blank screen for weeks; nothing came to mind. She tried walking to clear her head, and that’s when she stumbled upon a little Holo-bookstore. To her surprise, her sister Yin was reading a poem inside. She stood in the corner watching, words grabbing at her.
The two of them caught up over a cup of Synthossa. Yang was almost speechless reading Yin’s work when an idea sparked. She told her sister about the record deal and wanted to partner up. Yin was hesitant, couldn’t see the talent and passion she had, but Yang knew she needed pushing, so she did, until Yin finally agreed. And so the Yin Yang Sisters were born, the newest Pop duo in Cyberia. They began work in the studio above the record store, Yang as the lead singer while Yin wrote. Once the album was released, they were thrust into fame, performing at nightclubs and festivals.
As fame grew, so did their differences. Yang was in her element, performing in front of thousands; fans waited hours for autographs. But her sister's quiet energy brought her down. She found Yin neglecting others, hiding backstage—this wasn’t how she imagined them together. Yang became short with her sister, couldn’t understand how someone with it all could act like she was. It wasn’t fair to her or their fans. When Yin came to her one day, Yang knew she had to make her understand and told her, “Enjoy it; imagine how many people wish to be in your shoes.”
The sisters were invited to appear on “The Late Night Cyber Show” to promote their album. Yang saw the opportunity, but of course, her sister didn’t. So she used Yin’s love of writing to convince her of the importance. The infamous night arrived, with the sisters in their most glamorous outfits. Yang swooned the host and audience all night, until Yin cracked during the Q&A, sending them both into a large argument live on TV. Yang felt attacked by Yin and couldn’t understand her reasoning, feeling only pure embarrassment as her sister stormed off stage, ending the duo.
At first, Yang tried to laugh off the pain, putting her best smile forward, attending parties, appearing at the club, mingling with anyone in the industry. But something was different—music felt empty, friends changed, and fake smiles overwhelmed her. She missed Yin and the comfort that came from her quiet listening. Yang looked back on their time together and realized what she had done.
Yang called her sister to no answer, and her visits were ignored. She thought back to her sister’s writing. Yang grabbed two Synthossas and waited at her sister’s favorite park one full moon. It didn’t take long for Yin to arrive, with a stunned look on her face. The two sat in silence before Yang apologized for what she put her sister through, for not listening, and for not being there for her. Yin gripped her in the tightest hug she could muster… Connected again as they were born to be.
Much like all things in nature, everything requires balance, and with the Yin Yang Sisters reuniting, they wanted to embody this balance not only in their music but with who they are. So just like the ancient symbol, they decided to wear a piece of clothing representing the seed of the other within themselves—Yang wears a Black vest while Yin wears White pants. To this day, the sisters enjoy making music and performing; nothing excites Yang more than singing the very words her sister has written to thousands of adoring fans.
